Renovation monument Peter Schat House Amsterdam. This house is located on the Oudezijds Voorburgwal no.119 in Amsterdam and is a 17^th century canal house comprising a front house facing the canal, a back house and a central lightwell by which the two volumes are linked. The new owners of the house wish to eventually use it as a family house but in the meantime they would like to subdivide it so that their studying children, friends, etc. can share the house.

Together with the clients we developed optimal proposals for the layout and building activities in order to provide the best possible solutions for both their short and long term wishes.

The house was owned until 2003 by Peter Schat, a prominent post-war Dutch composer, music theorist and activist. Schat carried out a number of alterations to the house, the most remarkable of which is his transformation of the attic into a study. Roof trusses, windows and finishes underwent surreal changes to give the space a symbolic relationship with his own musical philosophy. We incorporated these alterations in the renovation proposals so that the dynamic transformation of the house from the 17^th century to the present day remains tangible.
